The United States Department of Labor’s Occupational Safety and Health Administration has
cited Tip Top Roofing & Construction, Inc. for five safety and health violations, comprised of
two willful and three serious violations. They come in response to an inspection of a worksite in
Naperville, Illinois in December of 2014. These inspection was initiated in response to a
complaint alleging workers were exposed to fall hazards at a residential jobsite. This is the
second time this year that Tip Top Roofing & Construction, Inc. has been cited by OSHA for
safety violations; the company is contesting the citations from April of this year. The violations
from this most recent inspections are for hazards relating to fall hazards, roof hazards, issues
with fall protection anchors, fall hazard and prevention training, and failing to extend a ladder at
least three feet above the landing to provide roof access. These violations carry proposed
penalties of $145,900.
“Tip Top Roofing and Construction continues to endanger the safety of its workers by refusing
to ensure that fall protection is used on the job sites. A worker can be severely injured or killed in
a fall in mere seconds. Failing to protect them from harm is unacceptable,” said Jacob Scott,
OSHA’s Area Director in Aurora. “Roofing contractors have a responsibility to train and protect
their workers on job sites.”
This is just another example of a company being cited for the same issues over and over again. If
your company has been through an OSHA inspection and there have been deficiencies
uncovered, it is important to consult a third party occupational safety and health auditing firm to
fix whatever deficiencies have been found in your occupational safety and health procedures in
order to avoid repeat citations and continued safety risk.
