The United States Department of Labor’s Occupational Safety and Health Administration will

hold a meeting in Washington, DC of the National Advisory Committee on Occupational Safety

and Health’s Temporary Workers Work Group. This meeting will be held to allow continued

discussion around workplace safety and health issues relating to temporary workers. They will

also develop recommendations for the National Advisory Committee on Occupational Safety and

Health’s consideration.

This meeting will be important to any employers who employ temporary workers. If any changes

are recommended and ultimately accepted, it could mean that occupational safety and health

policies and procedures need to be updated to accommodate said changes. This meeting also

further highlights OSHA’s emphasis on workplace safety for temporary employees. As such, it is

important to ensure not just that you understand and account for the upcoming changes, but also

that you have current policies and procedures which are current and up to date.

To help with this, it might make sense to hire a third party occupational safety and health

auditing firm. These firms will send an auditor to do either do a full wall to wall inspection of the

facility, to ensure that every aspect of your occupational safety and health program is up to date,

or they will send someone to inspect a targeted area, such as policies and procedures relating to

temporary workers. But either way, it is certainly worth at least speaking to a firm to see what is

available and how it might benefit you.
