In an effort to keep construction workers in San Antonio safe, the United States Department of

Labor’s Occupational Safety and Health Administration has formed an alliance with the

Associated General Contractors of America. This partnership will enhance safety and health

training programs in greater San Antonio, and will aim to roll out additional training to

construction companies there.

“This voluntary alliance provides construction workers with much needed training on

recognizing and avoiding construction site hazards such as falls, struck-by, caught in/or between

and electrical,” said Alejandro Porter, OSHA’s Area Director in San Antonio. “The alliance also

provides OSHA with a collaborative partnership with employers to find and fix hazards to

prevent workers from being hurt.”

This is a 2 year alliance, with scheduled rollouts during that time. So if you are in the

construction industry in San Antonio, it is important that you contact the Associated General

Contractors of America chapter nearest you to see if any additional trainings are available to you.

As with any partnership target area, OSHA will step up enforcement in that area, making

construction workplace safety a priority in and around San Antonio. If you own a construction

business in that area, it is important to ensure all of your occupational safety and health policies

and procedures are up to date and being followed by employees. If you have not recently

reviewed your policies and procedures, it might make sense to bring in a qualified third party

occupational safety and health auditing firm to help you update your company.

If you have any questions about how this new partnership will impact your business or if you

need to update your safety policies, please contact us. If you have anything to add about this new

partnership, please leave a comment.
