The United States Department of Labor’s Occupational Safety and Health Administration has

cited Jasper Contractors, Inc. for two safety and health violations. These two violations are

willful violations. They come in response to an inspection of a worksite in Jacksonville, FL in

March of 2015. This inspection was initiated after multiple complaints were submitted to OSHA

regarding employees working on a residential roof without safety protection. This is the third

time in a year Jasper Contractors was cited by OSHA during an inspection and since 2007,

OSHA has inspected Jasper 15 times, resulting in 37 citations. The citations from the inspection

in March are for a failure to ensure employees were wearing eye protection while using

pneumatic nail guns and exposing workers to falls from heights up to 13 feet by allowing them to

work without fall protection while performing re-roofing activities. These violations carry

proposed penalties of $140,000.

“Jasper’s management officials have been trained and know OSHA’s standards for protecting

workers while performing roofing activities, but we continue to find this employer ignoring

safety regulations and putting its employees at risk of death,” said Brian Sturtecky, OSHA’s area

director in Jacksonville.

As you can see, once a company has been audited and cited by OSHA, OSHA will continue to

audit the company as needed. And each time a violation is repeated, the fines increase. So if you

have been audited by OSHA before and are unsure if you have properly corrected any errors,

please contact a qualified third party occupational safety and health auditing firm.
